Submerge is designed for those bold souls who want to travel beyond borders and experience the adventure that living overseas can provide them. It is not by accident that Submerge operates on foreign soil. One of the themes of the program is challenging students to analyse their “normal”. If there is one thing that living in another culture will reveal, it’s that “normal” is relative to what you have seen, observed, and accepted. This understanding allows you to begin to create the new “normal” you seek for your life.

If the thought of zip-lining through the rainforest, hiking volcanos, or surfing in the pacific ocean sounds like your kind of adventure, then you’ll love calling Ecuador your home. While geographically Ecuador is a relatively small country, it has four distinct regions: the Andes Mountains, the Amazon rainforest, the Pacific coast, and Galapagos islands. Submerge team members have visited all of these regions. Imagine yourself following in the footsteps of past team members: hiking the summit of 15,000+ ft Pichincha, surfing the coast of beautiful Manabi, bridge-jumping over the river in Banos, traveling to South America’s largest open market in Otavalo, and camping at the base of the beautiful Cotopaxi volcano.

Over the past week I’ve gotten the chance to climb into a clock tower overlooking the city, whitewater raft in the Upper Amazon River, hammock in the Amazon Rainforest, repel down 4 waterfalls and ride another like a waterslide, view the beauty of Ecuador from the back of a pick-up truck, swing over a cliff at ‘the end of the world’, watch the sun set over the ocean, make new friends from all over the world, and learn so much more about the language and culture of this beautiful country.
